In situations where smoke has
been significant, 1st Action Services checks to see whether or not that contaminant
made its way into the structure's heating and air ducts. If we feel that it has, we
will typically recommend air duct cleaning.
Our duct cleaning specialists sweep the duct work with 200 lbs of applied air pressure
while the vacuum hose pulls 12,000 cubic feet per minute back out of the duct work. The truck
mounted equipment pulls the dust, mold, and other debris into a specially sealed compartment
on the truck. Portable vacuum systems utilize high effeciency particulate air (HEPA) filters,
capable of trapping 99.97% of particles down to .3 microns in size. Smoke debris in the ductwork
is loosened and removed by a combination of rotary brush units, air whips, and manual brushes
on flex-rod sections, then driven to the vacuum with compressed air from blow guns
and air snakes, or manually vaccumed with portable HEPA vacuum units.
Duct cleaning, when necessary,
can mitigate the risk of future loss pertaining to health issues resulting from a
home which has experienced smoke or fire.
